WhitLit, Whitstable’s very own literary festival, is proud to announce that its October pop up event will feature the screenwriter and novelist, David Nicholls, author of the phenomenally successful book One Day.
In conversation with WhitLit patron, Richard Barber, David will be discussing his work, including his latest book, You are Here, which was published in April this year and has been described as “a novel of first encounters, second chances and finding the way home.”
Having exchanged an acting career for writing, David’s novel, One Day, went on to become a multi-million bestseller and to date has been translated into 40 languages. His fourth novel, Us, was longlisted for the Booker Prize for Fiction.
On screen, David has written adaptations of Far from the Madding Crowd, When Did You Last See Your Father? and Great Expectations, as well as of his own novels, Starter for Ten, U and the 2010 feature film, One Day, starring Anne Hathaway and Jim Sturgess.
David’s adaptation of Edward St Aubyn’s Patrick Melrose, starring Benedict Cumberbatch, was nominated for an Emmy and won him a BAFTA for best writer. He is also an executive producer and contributing screenwriter of the smash hit Netflix adaptation of One Day, which began streaming this year starring Leo Woodall and Ambika Mod in the bittersweet love story that has seemingly now captivated the world.

Victoria Falconer, founder and director of WhitLit says: “We are incredibly grateful to David for accepting our invitation to what will be the fourth in WhitLit’s brand new format of pop up events staged throughout the year. There will be an opportunity for questions from the audience and some book signing. Tickets are selling very fast so it would be wise to book early.”
The event will take place at the Stage Theatre of the Whitstable School in Bellevue Road Whitstable CT5 1PX on Wednesday 9th October from 7pm.
