Cheers! Jo Phaure selects Whitstable-based acts from this year’s Faversham Fringe

The Faversham Fringe festival starts today, Friday 4 October, and runs till the 27 October. It’s a fantastic opportunity to see comedy, theatre & culture at a bargain price. With tickets starting at just £6, whatever you’re into, why not try something a little different? But with over 70 shows spread over four weeks, it can be a little overwhelming to decide just what not to miss. So here is my round up of all the best shows by local acts to take away the strain of curating your own culture digest. Here’s my round up of some of the best acts with Whitstable links.
1.

Hot Rod the album is a strong starter for the festival, on Friday 4th October 8.30 pm at the Arden Theatre Faversham. Hot Rod is a drag king persona of Whitstable based comedian, Ruth Stone. They will make you laugh till you can’t breathe: an affectionate pastiche of masculinity, music and mainstream culture. Men and women alike are drawn into Hot Rod’s sexy aura! After a string of hits across Germany, Hot Rod is back on home turf to launch his album… and win your heart! This drag show explores masculinity through stand-up and (rather filthy) original songs. https://favershamfringe.co.uk/hot-rod-the-album
2.

On 13th October at 4 pm in the Alexander Centre, Whitstable based comedian Jo Phaure will bring her first full length show to the Faversham Fringe. ‘I hate to boast but…‘ features her usual acerbic wit and dark anecdotes. Ably hosted and with a whip smart set from fellow St Mary’s alumni, Genevieve Pepper, and featuring the successful musical comedian, Neil Long, this show will be a fast paced, X-rated round up of neurosis, failings & exes. Followed by a conga to Faversham Spoons! https://www.ticketsource.co.uk/whats-on/faversham/the-alexander-centre-sidney-room/i-hate-to-boast-but-jo-phaure-comedian-poet-artist
3.

Adam Dorr is a Canterbury based rising star! You’ll adore Adam Dorr. His comedy just keeps getting better, unlike his autism, but you’ll join him in seeing the funny side of life from a unique perspective if you go see his show In-Adam-Quate on Friday 18th October at 7 pm in the Mayor’s Parlour. His autobiographical exploration of all facets of life from the perspective of the world’s most awkward man should be a charming delight: just like him! https://favershamfringe.co.uk/2410-2
4.

Katie-Rose’s show Dirty B*tch is achingly good comedy for the adults in the room. Whitstable based Canadian Katie-Rose brings her potty-mouthed show with an obscene lack of boundaries. Nothing is off limits for Katie-Rose – from her dog’s first season to her sexual fantasies to Faversham Fringe on The Alexander Centre, Jubilee Room on Saturday 26th October at 7 pm. https://favershamfringe.co.uk/dirty-btch
5.

On Sat 26th October in the The Alexander Centre, Mayors Parlour, at 8.30 pm, Whitstable raised Genevieve Pepper brings her subversive alter ego to the Fringe. Famed dominatrix comedian, writer, witch and mental patient Jezebel Pye unpicks the world of kink and shares her lurid experiences. You will wince, laugh and throb. Not a dry seat in the house. This show will absolutely be a filthy funny celebration of all things kink! https://favershamfringe.co.uk/the-kink-and-i
So there you go a full selection of hyper local comedy talent entertaining crowds as part of the Faversham Fringe this month. So why not take a look at the brochure and get yourself some tickets? https://favershamfringe.co.uk/faversham-fringe-programme-2024#
