Rick Stein is a highly respected chef, restaurateur, cookery book author and television presenter. He has written over 25 cookery books, a memoir and made over 30 TV programmes including 12 cookery series.  In 2018, Rick was awarded a CBE for Services to the Economy.

Best known for a love of fresh, simple seafood, Rick made his name in the ‘90s with his earliest books and the television series based on his life as chef and owner of The Seafood Restaurant (established in 1975) in the fishing port of Padstow. As he said at the time “nothing is more exhilarating than fresh fish simply cooked” – an ethos he has both lived and run his businesses by. These now include 10 restaurants, 40 hotel rooms, self-catering accommodation, four shops and a cookery school as well as an online business including Stein’s Online Fishmongers.

Rick Stein’s Food Stories

Rick’s new book, Rick Stein’s Food Stories, accompanies a BBC Two TV series of the same name which celebrates his favourite recipes from recent travels around the UK – including Cumbria, Belfast, Bristol and Birmingham.  Rick’s over 50-year enthusiasm for using good-quality local produce and his desire to create simple but delicious recipes for his books and restaurants have won him much praise around the world. As well as presenting a number of television series, he has published many best-selling cookery books, including Simple Suppers, Secret France, India, Spain and Fish & Shellfish.

Victoria Falconer, founder and director of WhitLit, the popular literary festival which re-launched last October with pop-up events staged throughout the year, says “It’s a real pleasure to welcome Rick Stein and to hear more about his new book and TV series. This will be WhitLit’s final event of 2024, and a suitable finale to a year during which we have featured a whole host of amazing authors, in our new fresh format, including David Nicholls and Victoria Hislop. I know there’s already a huge demand to see Rick so it would be wise to buy tickets for this event as soon as possible.

Rick Stein’s event will take place on Thursday November 14 at 6:30 pm at the Stage Theatre of The Whitstable School, Whitstable, CT5 1PX.
