Independent bookshops have a huge advantage over large chain bookstores in that they tend to be community-minded, conscious of what their local community likes to read and keen to stage events featuring local authors—even if they don’t have a great deal of floor space.

One such indie treasure is The Little Green Bookshop in Herne Bay High Street where I’ll be taking part in a special author event on Thursday 20th March at 6.30pm, talking to Whitstable’s Graeme Bosley about my Whitstable Pearl Mystery crime novels and the TV series based on them, Whitstable Pearl, starring Kerry Godliman. Graeme and I will also be discussing my latest book, The Mantuary, a standalone thriller set in Yorkshire, which focuses on domestic abuse and coercive control—with a Q & A session straight after.

The reason I use the word “special” about this event, is because a “special prize draw” will be taking place that night by which anyone coming to the event will be able to submit their names—one of which will become the name of a character in my next Whitstable Pearl novel.
Straight after the talk, I’ll be choosing that winning name at random, so this will be your chance to have a Whitstable Pearl character named after you. The winner will also receive a FREE SIGNED COPY of The Mantuary.

Tickets for the event are available now for £7 from this page:

Or you can just pop into the shop at 38 High St, Herne Bay CT6 5LH.
Remember, you have to be in it to win it—so join us for what promises to be a lot of fun at a very special indie shop.

Julie Wassmer is a Whitstable-based author, TV writer and environmental campaigner. She has successfully fought a number of environmental issues, including fracking in Kent and tree clearances by Network Rail. Her Whitstable Pearl crime novels are now a major TV series, starring Kerry Godliman.
