Two hours before he burned himself alive, at around 1 pm on Sunday 25th February 2024, Aaron Bushnell posted a final message on Facebook.

“Many of us like to ask ourselves, ‘What would I do if I was alive during slavery? Or the Jim Crow South? Or apartheid? What would I do if my country was committing genocide?’ The answer is, you’re doing it. Right now.”

That’s a powerful statement, especially considering what he was about to do, but he missed something out. He missed out the word “holocaust”. So I will say it for him. “What would you do if you were alive during the Holocaust? The answer is, you’re doing it. Right now.”

And I will add another statement to that. Zionism is Nazism. No hiding from it any more. Gaza has gone from being a concentration camp to being a death camp. People are not starving to death, they are being starved. Not enough to have destroyed their homes, hospitals, schools, mosques, salinisation plants, sewage works, bakeries, and everything else that made life liveable in the Gaza Strip, they have now deprived the population of Gaza of the means of life itself.

Of course, the statement, “Zionism is Nazism”, is considered Antisemitic in some quarters. I won’t put this out as a post on Facebook because I know it would not remain for long, even though it’s true. Such is the nature of our social media. We are censored before we speak.

So, just to be clear, by “Zionist” I don’t mean Jew. Most Zionists aren’t Jews. Joe Biden is a Zionist, and he claims to be Irish. Rishi Sunak is a Zionist, and he was born a Hindu. Keir Starmer is a self-declared Zionist and he is the Leader of the Opposition. One third of the Cabinet and two-fifths of the Shadow Cabinet in the UK are Zionists. They are bought and paid for by the Israel lobby. They are actively working for a foreign government. In another age they would be called traitors, fifth columnists, double agents. They should be put on trial for Treason once this horror is over.

The majority of Zionists are Evangelical Christians in the United States, who believe that Biblical prophesies are literally true. And many Jews, a growing number, are not only not Zionists, they are Anti-Zionists, who stand in solidarity with the Palestinian people.

So let’s get our words clear. Nazism is the belief that the Aryan people are the Master Race. They consider themselves superior to other people on this earth, like Jews and Slavs, who are defined as not human, or subhuman. Likewise Zionists believe that they are God’s Chosen People. This is despite the fact that the early Zionists were atheists who didn’t believe in God. But they are clear. Israeli Jews are superior to other people, especially Palestinians, who are defined, in the words of Israeli Defence Minister Yoav Gallant, as “human animals.”

We are at a crucial time in history. We are seeing the world for what it is. The vast majority of people on this Earth are against the genocide in Gaza, and yet it continues. It continues because a small number of people in power want it to continue. It serves their interests. It lines their pockets. It allows them to lord it over other people.

Who are these people? The Israeli, government, of course, who have ordered this onslaught against humanity. And the so-called Israeli Defence Force, who are not defending anyone but are murdering, maiming, starving men, women and children alike while, at the same time, looting their homes and revelling in their power. Also the far-right settlers, who have been provided guns by the Israeli government, and who are driving Palestinians from their homes in the West Bank and stealing their land, with the collusion of the army. And large numbers of the Israeli population too, who believe the lies of their government, and who want revenge for the humiliation that was inflicted upon them on October 7th. Also the leaders of Western governments who have given them the green light by saying that “Israel has the right to defend itself”. And the arms manufacturers, who are making money from the slaughter, and the banks, who are invested in Israel, and all those companies who have interests in Israel and who take profit from it, who have branches or factories in Israel, or who buy Israeli products and distribute them around the world. And all of those who defend Israeli crimes online or in the media, or in conversation, or in any other way. And all those who fail to act, who only want a quiet life, who have not taken sides, but who stand by indifferently as this evil is taking place.

So it is time to change. It is time for the people of the world to wake up. Our governments are not interested in us. They don’t care if we live or die. What is happening in Gaza could be happening to anyone. Any group of outsiders in any country in the world – asylum seekers, migrants, brown people, black people, women, gay people, trans people, disabled people, people of a different faith or belief system to the majority – anyone anywhere could be targetted by the Nazis who have taken over the institutions of our world.

Wake up world. It’s time to take a stand.
